basic pop rhythm

Well, we started this last week. I wrote out the music in dots on large sheets of paper, gave each student a percussion instrument and put them into groups – a bass drum group, a snare group and a hi-hat group. Then I ran through the rhythm for each group and had them practice it. Then we did it all together. I won’t say it was a complete disaster, but the word cacophony comes to mind. Anyhow, we will persevere.

things to try

A list of things I want to try with my class of five- and six-year-olds.

  1. Digital photography
  2. Digital image manipulation
  3. (Regular) blogging
  4. Email correspondence with another school
  5. Podcasts
  6. Student-run pages on a website (like this one)
  7. The basic pop rhythm (drumming)

Well, I can put a line through the first one as we are in the middle of doing this right now – with some fantastic results, too. I’d like to put a gallery up here of some of them. Next is to put the photos through something like KidPix, (I do think Photoshop would be too much for these kids right now), and see what they can come up with.
